FTPing with Microsoft Windows XP
There's nothing worse than creating and uploading your website to your host, making some changes offline and then when you try to re-upload the files: finding out that your trial period with your FTP program has expired. Hunt no more for that elusive free FTP package — if you've got Windows, it'll do it for you via Windows Explorer (or IE).
First, open a window — any window. You could even open your My Documents folder this thing is *that* adaptable. In the Address bar (where it probably currently says something like "My Documents") — type the host name/address you'd usually connect to your ftp account with. For me, this is ftp.jemjabella.co.uk so for you it's probably ftp.yourdomain.com — where yourdomain.com is the domain you have.
If you don't allow anonymous ftp access, you'll probably get a warning now about Windows not being able to access the folder — that's ok, we're not done yet.
Click the FILE button along the top menu and select Login As... you will then be prompted to enter your username and password. If you have your own hosting package, your username will be the same as the username you log in to cpanel (if you have it) with. If you're on a subdomain, your username will usually be folder.domain-name.com — where folder is the name of your folder, and domain-name.com is the domain you're hosted at. Password is easy — it's your hosting account password.
Once you've entered in your details, click "Logon" and away you go. To 'upload' files simply copy them from wherever they're stored on your computer hard drive to wherever you want them on your host. FTP without a specialist program!
